Winter Tournament 2008 recap


Despite some rough weather the intrepid anglers competed in good numbers for the prizes and bragging rights. Some 18 boats registered 12 boats fished and nine entered fish.

The new club champion is Mel Johnson who was fishing with “Red” Hensen and Denny McClelland. Over the two days they caught all five species and scored the winning Grouper for a total point score of 278 points. It was a come from behind victory. At the end of day one, they were in 3rd place (135 points)  behind Tom Prazan and John Rowe. The Johnson team had a great second day and leaped into a non-contested first. The Prazan team couldn’t better day one’s catch, finishing 2nd with 227. The “Garage Sailor” team (Ed Stell), after dock fishing on Saturday, hit the “golden patch” pulling three species for 188 points and 3rd place vaulting over John Rowe’s Winter Dream at 171. Rounding out the top 5 was Bob Smart with 152. Mel  also gets his name on the “Harold Cliff Memorial Perpetual Trophy”  Winners were awarded "Martinque Shack" by Pasta Pantaleo “Reel Life Art by Pasta”
