2008 Gulf Stream Outing 3/30/2008

After a couple of re-schedules  29 UKFC members hit the high Sea's aboard the Gulf Stream for a night of fishing and feasting. Thanks  Chan and Vickie for a great time. Also thanks to the folks who mixed the sand and kept everyone's hands cleaning by making sand balls. The winds cooperated (for the most part) however a strong current made it next to impossible to bottom fish. It took 1 1/2 lbs to hold bottom and the baits did not work well in the current.

The Yellow Tail were hungry! I'm guessing but there were 50 to 60 tails put in the box and I don't think anyone caught a fish under 15". The biggest tail of the night was caught by Ron "Benny" Nelson 22 1/2" right around 3 lbs. The winner of the big fish pool (a whopping $27) was taken by Mike Casale with a 3 3/4 lb Porgie which was caught bottom fishing off the bow. Now mike can buy that new 40 footer he has his eye on. A couple of muttons were also landed by the bottom fishing crew. Along with the tails an assortment of jacks, and blue fish  grabbed baits and tugged on the lines.

The food spread was awesome, with a wide range of snacks, deserts and chicken (anyway you wanted it). It's rumored that Yellow Tails would only bite on "chicken chunks" on Monday. Fortunately the Gulf Stream had some leftovers.

Thanks Rod Holzworth for spearheading the trip and Mike MacDonald for first mating.

Mark your calendar. July 17th  the Moonlight snapper trip aboard the Gulf Stream.
